The concept of Mission, Vision, Goals and objectives is applicable not only for industries but also for all human beings. In fact it can be better under stood from examples of human life. Let me explain the same with few examples:-
1) Mission:-Mission of any organization is the very purpose for which it is established. For example, the mission of an educational institution can be-“ to impart knowledge to the students and to nourish them for the requirement of the society”.
In life every individual should also have a mission. It is nothing but what he/she wants to achieve from his/her entire life.For example, a gentle man set his mission as” to enjoy all worldly pleasures to the maximum possible extent!!!”
2) Vision:- Vision of an organization is its long term goal.The mission and vision are normally set by the top management. To set the mission you should have clear idea about where you are standing at the moment. For example, a management institute in India can set its vision as-“ to be the best management institute in India and one of the best in the world”.
The gentle man who set his mission as -” to enjoy all worldly pleasures to the maximum possible extent”-can set his vision as –“to be the richest man in the locality and one of the richest in the country in next 20 years”
3)Goals and Objectives:- To realize the vision, any organization should frame both long term and short term goals. Objectives are specific ways by which you are going to achieve the goals. Hence objectives should be specific, Measurable and realistic. For example, the management institute with the above mentioned vision can frame its goal for the next one year as to-“ improve the placement levels of final year students”.Again,the objectives for the same shall be framed.One of the objectives can be-“To ensure that the placement level of final year MBA students gone up from 50% in 2010 to 75% in 2011”.
For the gentle man with his vision as –“to be the richest man in the locality and one of the richest in the country in next 20 years”- can set is goal for the next one year as –“to earn $1000000 in the year 2011”.Now he has to set his objectives for achieving this goal.He can have different well defined objectives for achiving the goal.For example,he can set one of the objectives as-“To increase the earning from share trading from $50000 in 2010 to $100000 in 2011.”
The ultimate aim of any organization or individual is to realize the vision.
